Growing up, I’ve always struggled with feeling like a fraud, like I’m in a place I’m not meant to be. It wasn’t until I became an adult that I understood this feeling as imposter syndrome.
Many successful people have this. They wrongly think they’re pretending to have a skill set they actually spent years developing. Why?
Why do successful people feel like frauds? Why do we doubt ourselves?
What is Imposter Syndrome?
In the creative community, the term ‘imposter syndrome’ is ascribed to successful people who feel like frauds. They lack confidence in their skills, believing they aren’t good enough or they’re ‘imposing’ on true talent.
Imposter Syndrome dampens the gift and calling that God places over your life, preventing you from walking in your divine purpose.
It seeks to destroy your sanity. It lurks in the shadows, plotting how it can bring you down. However, there is one thing imposter syndrome can’t do.
It can’t stop God from unconditionally loving you.
How Imposter Syndrome Affects Success
The Spirit of Imposter Syndrome will:
- Diminish your identity and worth in Christ, and magnify your flaws and insecurities
- Silence your inner voice and convince you that your opinion is worthless
- Convince you that you don’t belong or you’ll never be enough
If you’re facing Imposter Syndrome, then the first thing you must do is remind yourself of this:
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:1-2
Scriptures to Face Imposter Syndrome
God gave us the tools for overcoming imposter syndrome. He equips us with words of encouragement, confidence, and alignment that remind us of who we are in Him.
These are reminders to help you overcome self-doubt when you’re facing imposter syndrome.
No One Can Condemn You
Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Romans 8:33-34
You Have God-Given Power
For God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
God Loves You Unconditionally
In all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:37-39
You Are On God’s Side
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:33-34
