This February, I want to celebrate Black History Month by encouraging you to first and foremost identify yourself in God.
As a young Christian living in a world where I was told to doubt my faith because of the challenges that Black persons face at the hands of Christianity, I can see why many have altogether left the church, questioned the authenticity of the Scriptures, or downright denied Christ.
How can one elect to serve a God that seems so unaware of the multitude of challenges that the Black man and woman face on a daily basis? And how can we connect to Christ in terms of our identity?
It’s wonderful to know that I serve a sovereign God who sees the past, present, and future. Throughout the Bible and the earliest Christian/Church history, God saw fit to ensure that His Word would impact each individual, regardless of race, ethnicity, cultural background, gender, or age.
So in Christ Jesus, we are all children of God through faith, for all of us who were baptized into Christ have clothed ourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for we are all one in Christ Jesus. (Gal 3:26-28)
