Several weeks ago, I watched the What Is a Woman? documentary by the Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh.
I’ve heard about this documentary through various sources, including TikTok and Mike Winger’s YouTube channel (and ads). The interesting thing about the documentary is how evasive many of the answers Matt Walsh received were. However, when Walsh went to the Maasai tribe in Kenya, he received a completely straight-forward response.
I thought to myself ‘how does the transgender/non-binary movement affect Black women?’
While studying African Art and Civilization in college, one thing became clear to me: many prominent tribes in Africa celebrate the concept of womanhood. The idea of women being ‘life-givers’ seems to be a consistent theme in Africa. The celebration of womanhood and their ability to bring forth life isn’t a foreign concept to them.
I appreciate the Maasai woman’s answer to Walsh’s question ‘what is a woman?’
“She must be able to deliver.”
Could this concept of womanhood be under threat due to society’s ultimate rejection of Yahweh? Yah has always celebrated womanhood and in Genesis 3, He mandates that through pain a woman would be able to bring forth children. But His declaration of the woman didn’t stop there. He decrees to the serpent that He would put enmity between the woman’s seed and the serpent’s.
What a strange way to phrase the power of women—her victory and strength is in her ability to deliver. Because a woman delivered Yeshua into this world, He was able to deliver us from sin.
However, as society strives further away from Yah, even His order is being rejected. Romans 1 shows how far mankind have gone from Yah’s Divine Order.
Romans 1:20 tells us,
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
However,
“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
Therefore, God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.”
-Romans 1:21-25
The “agenda” of today’s so-called progressive society steers away from God’s eternal truth in exchange for their own. Walsh had a hard time getting “the truth” out of some people. Many people found comfort in telling Walsh that he is allowed to live his own truth, and one person even found the word truth to be insulting and offensive.
But, here, a letter written by Paul in 1st century Judea describes the very thing happening in 21st century America.
“Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”
-Romans 1:28-32
Even today, as society insists on walking in their own truth, even those who don’t practice such things are persuaded by the strength of the masses to approve of such actions.
It interests me that many of the answers Walsh received were arrogant and boastful—and insolent—they were rude and condescending and had no respect for his opinions or answers.
However, there is hope for even those who seem to be steadfast in the lies spun by the Deceiver. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 tells us,
“Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
However, Paul continues to say this in 1 Corinthians 6:11,
“And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
The seed of the woman, who is Yeshua, came to deliver us, to sanctify us through—not works—but grace.
Yah indeed has a special role for women, one that fits His ultimate Divine Order. Yeshua declares in John 8:32 that the truth will set us free. And in John 14, He says He IS the way, the truth, and the life.
Note, that if you look at the definition of the word “deliver”[a] Yeshua fits all except one—to give birth to (of a woman). This act of delivery was performed by the woman. Perhaps, the role of women is more significant than simply how one wants to identify.
Perhaps, the spiritual role of women takes on a side of Yah that mere man could not perform—to deliver a child (a life).
Yeshua is that life.
